What Amber does with your data
Amber works entirely on your device. Your Snapchat export, your photos and videos, your captions, your locations and everything derived from them are processed on your iPhone and written to a folder you choose. They are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with anyone, including me.
What is collected
Nothing. Amber has no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no third-party components that phone home. I cannot see your memories, your name, or even how many people use the app.
Where your memories live
In a folder you choose, as ordinary image and video files. If you choose a folder in iCloud Drive, Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy apply to that storage, exactly as they do to any file you keep there. If you use the optional "save to Photos" feature, those copies are governed by Apple's Photos and iCloud terms. Amber itself holds no copy of anything.
The private vault
Vault items are encrypted on your device with a key derived from your passcode. I never see the passcode, the key, or the contents. If you lose both the passcode and the recovery code, nobody can decrypt those files, including me. That is the point of it.
Purchases
The one-time unlock is processed by Apple. I receive no payment details and no personal information about you, only anonymous aggregate sales figures.
Your Snapchat data
Amber only reads export files you obtained yourself through Snapchat's official "Download My Data" feature. Amber never asks for, and cannot use, your Snapchat login.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the new version appears at this address with a new date. Since the app sends nothing anywhere, a change could only ever narrow what is already nothing.
